Nathaniel Bassey Addresses Misreporting on Trump Inauguration Performance
Renowned Christian music minister and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has clarified recent misconceptions regarding his alleged invitation to perform at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20th.
Rumors had spread across online platforms and traditional media, suggesting that Bassey would join a lineup of international Christian singers performing at the inauguration. However, the Akwa Ibom-born cleric has debunked these claims, emphasizing that he was not invited to the official ceremony.
Instead, Pastor Bassey explained that the event in question, the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, is a non-official and non-governmental gathering. This faith-based platform is hosted once every four years, just before the inauguration of a new U.S. president. Its purpose is to offer intercessory prayers and worship on behalf of the president’s office and the nation’s government.
“The Presidential Prayer Breakfast is a non-official and non-governmental event,” Bassey clarified. “It is a faith-based platform where intercessory prayers and worship are offered to God on behalf of the office of the president and the government of the nation. This event is held every four years, preceding the inauguration ceremony, as a breakfast prayer meeting ahead of each new administration. Over the years, it has been attended by leaders and dignitaries from around the world.”
The Onise Iyanu singer further distinguished the event from the official inauguration, urging the public to avoid conflating the two.
“Please note, the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast is not the inauguration as reported by blogs and some online platforms,” he concluded.
This clarification underscores the importance of verifying information before dissemination, especially when it involves high-profile events and personalities.
